The Draw of the Garden

Having a Community Garden nestled in the heart of downtown Minneapolis means that it is frequented by a variety of people from all walks of life. It isn’t uncommon to see someone in a full suit cutting through on the footpath as they head to the office, people from the neighborhood hanging out under the pergola, or even someone taking their lunchbreak at the picnic table.

If you see someone down there with a sketchbook or a set of watercolors, there’s a good chance it is fellow gardener Ben Etten! He lives close and appreciates having a quiet spot downtown to be able to sit and draw. Plus, with all the colorful plants in the the garden, there are always an endless supply of willing subjects who don’t mind sitting still for a portrait!

If you see Ben down there, say hi. And if you are interested in seeing more of his work, check him out on Instagram – @pessimistic.press or on his website pessimistic.press.

It isn’t always about planting, weeding, and harvesting. Don’t forget that we all contributed to making a peaceful little oasis in the middle of a metropolis, so go ahead and enjoy it!
